Place de la Concorde

Turning south on the Rue Royale, Marie Antoinette's horse-drawn cart was taken into the Place de la Revolution, now the Place de la Concorde. There was set the great platform, atop which rested the guillotine - the most "humane" method of execution in its day. Now, the plaza is home to a large obelisk gifted by Egypt; the signs of its more revolutionary and grim past are all but washed away from human memory.
